What Is Responsible Gaming and Why It Matters

Responsible Gaming means using online gaming as a healthy form of entertainment — not as a source of income or a way to cope with stress. At Hibaja, responsible gaming isn't just a rule; it's at the heart of everything we do.

Every player is different. Some play once a week, others play daily. But regardless of how often you play, the core principle of responsible gaming is the same — Know your limits — and respect them.

Hibaja believes that a mindful, self-aware player is the one who truly gets the most out of gaming. On this page, we'll walk you through every aspect of responsible gaming.

Keep in mind: Gaming is for entertainment. Chasing losses by playing more to "win back" what you've lost is never the right decision.

How to Build Healthy Gaming Habits

Building healthy gaming habits starts with setting ground rules from the beginning. Here are some habits that will help you play responsibly at Hibaja:

  • 1 Set time limits: Decide in advance how long you'll play each day. Set a timer and stop when it goes off.
  • 2 Set a budget first: Decide in advance how much BDT you're willing to spend on gaming each week or month — and stick to that limit.
  • 3 Accept the loss: Every game has wins and losses. If you lose, don't be disheartened — accept it as part of the game.
  • 4 Take breaks: Avoid playing for long stretches at a time. Take a 10–15 minute break every hour.
  • 5 Keep up with other activities: Keep your family, friends, hobbies, and work in balance. Don't let gaming become the only thing in your life.
  • 6 Don't play on impulse: Don't sit down to play when you're feeling upset, angry, or overly excited. Play with a clear head.

Recognizing the Signs of Problem Gambling

Most people game responsibly. But for some, gaming can gradually become a problem. Watch out for these warning signs:

Repeatedly going over your set budget.

The urge to keep playing in order to recover lost money.

Feeling restless or anxious when you're not gaming.

Hiding your gaming activity from family or friends.

Gaming is affecting your work, studies, or relationships.

Borrowing money or taking funds from others to gamble.

If you recognise two or more of these signs in yourself, it's time to take action. Hibaja's support team is always ready to help.

Self-Assessment — Check In With Yourself

Ask yourself the following questions — and answer them honestly.

1
Have you ever played longer than you intended, even when you wanted to stop?
2
Do you feel irritable or restless when you're unable to game?
3
Do you hide how much you're gaming from the people close to you?
4
After a loss, do you find yourself betting more because you feel a win is just around the corner?
5
Is gaming affecting your sleep, appetite, or daily routine?
6
Have you ever used money meant for essential expenses on gaming?
7
Have you repeatedly tried to cut back on gaming but failed?

If you answered "Yes" to more than 3 questions, visit Hibaja's Help Centre or contact our support team.

Budget Management — Plan Smart

Financial planning is the most important aspect of responsible gaming. Keep the following in mind before you play at Hibaja:

How to Budget

  • Only play with money you can afford to lose.
  • Never use money set aside for rent, food, or your children's education for gaming.
  • Set a monthly budget and break it down by week.
  • Set aside your winnings instead of putting them back into play.
  • Never gamble with borrowed money or your savings.

Real-Life Example

Say your monthly income is ৳20,000 BDT. After covering rent, food, transport, and other essentials, if you have ৳1,000 BDT left for entertainment — keep your gaming strictly within that amount. Treat that ৳1,000 BDT as your "gaming budget".

Gaming is never a source of income. While some people do win big, statistically most players lose over the long run. Play for the enjoyment, not the expectation of winning.

The Role of Family and Loved Ones

It's not always easy to recognize a problem from the inside. Family and friends are often the first to notice when gaming becomes harmful. If you see signs of problematic gaming behavior in someone you care about:

  • Speak calmly, without blame or accusation.
  • See it as a problem to address, not a personal failure.
  • Encourage them to seek help.
  • Make more time to spend with your family.
  • Reach out to the Hibaja support team — we're here to help families too.

Remember, problematic gaming is a behavioural issue — not a character flaw. With the right support, it can be overcome.
